Modern Elegance and Rustic Revival

To create our house into a home, I have located a website that labels the style that we're trying to incorporate into our Bungalow.  If we were semi-located near a body of any sort of water besides the White River, we'd for sure be "Nantucket Style". Growing up next to Lake Erie, and living near the Atlantic Ocean twice now, there's a certain fondness associated with sand, waves, shells and sun. My dream house is somewhere located near a body of water, of course. The husband's is somewhere in the mountains on a body of water. Eventually, we'll have Nantucket style, but for now, it's Modern Elegance/Rustic Revival. Who knew?

MODERN ELEGANCE:
You either love contemporary but wish it wasn't quite so cold and austere; or perhaps you've always been drawn to more traditional rooms but are now at a point in your life where you'd like to pair down a bit or want to create a less cluttered and busy space. Transitional Style is here to marry those apparent contradicting designs. And guess what — it's the contradictions that make the mix of contemporary and traditional so successful. The result is an elegant room that appeals to young and old alike.

RUSTIC REVIVAL:
Either way you play it, you are one of the unique individuals who loves a mix of modern and country. The clean lines of the modern softened by rustic /vintage elements is the perfect mix in your mind. And can we blame you? You've taken the best aspects of two popular designs and mixed them in a manner that appeals young and old alike.

Apparently, appealing to the young and old alike is quite similar as is the mixture of old and new along with stainless steel, satin nickel, and textures like linen, chunky sweater pillows/throws, wood stained mouldings, vintage golds, wood and concrete floors, refined leather, canvas, and rope. Old and new, with varying textures and elements can't be too hard can it? It's proven to be difficult with the nautical mystique trying to work itself back inside. The Aqua trend hasn't helped, either. It's my favorite color and I find myself buying storage items and accent pieces with shades of aqua. Somehow I will have to work them into the mix. Currently the kitchen is the place for all shades of turquoise and aqua, just look at this fabulous curtain.Technically a shower curtain, but I have turned it into a regular window curtain to coordinate with the pale aqua silk curtains over a picture window in the kitchen.

So, how do you celebrate your style? Is there anything specific you look for when choosing furniture, paint colors, curtains? We typically choose what we LOVE and somehow work it in. Unfortunately this does take time and patience to find that specific curtain to match our favorite paint color and our oh so comfortable couches.Do mood boards actually help?
